The federal government has decided to appeal to the Supreme Court the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision to reinstate Dr. Tariq Javed as Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
“After careful evaluation of the circumstances of the case, it has been decided to file and prosecute the CPLA on behalf of the Federation in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.” According to a letter from the Law and Justice Division to Advocate-on-Record Anis Muhammad Shahzad, “you are nominated to act as Advocate-on-Record.”
Furthermore, “Aamir Rehman, Additional Attorney General, Islamabad, is nominated to represent the Federation of Pakistan before the Supreme Court,” according to the letter dated 28 January.
Previously, on January 18, a division bench of the IHC reinstated Dr. Tariq Javed Banuri as chairman of the Higher Education Commission.
Dr. Banuri was named chairman of the HEC for a four-year term in 2018, however he was replaced in March 2021. According to the presidential edict, amendments to the Higher Education Commission Ordinance 2002 reduced the chairman’s term from four to two years.
