PSL is back for its seventh edition, and it promises to be larger than ever. Six PSL franchises will compete in high-octane matches over the course of a month to be named PSL 2022 champions. Multan Sultans, the defending champions, will be seeking to become the first team in PSL history to maintain their title, while Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, and Quetta Gladiators will be hoping to win their second trophy and tie Islamabad United for the most titles. Lahore Qalandars, on the other side, will be aiming to win their maiden PSL crown and become the competition’s last team to do so at least once.

PSL 7 will take place at two locations from January 27 to February 27. PSL 2022 will be hosted in National Stadium Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, as the league returns to Pakistan after last year’s second phase was held in the UAE due to the pandemic.

PSL 2022 Draft

The PSL 2022 draught will take place on December 12th. Each side will be able to keep a maximum of 8 players from their previous squad, as well as choose one extra player as the right-to-match card from their previous roster. This adjustment enables the organisation to plan ahead and select the finest possible lineup for the forthcoming season.

Major international superstars such as Rashid Khan, Chris Gayle, David Miller, and Liam Livingstone are expected to be selected in the PSL 7 draught, and organisations will be trying to sign top players.

PSL 2022 Draft Pick Order

The Lahore Qalandars have the first round picks in the platinum, diamond, gold, and developing categories in the PSL 7 draught, giving them a wonderful opportunity to create a star-studded roster. Multan Sultans, the defending champions, got the second pick in the platinum category, while Quetta Gladiators, the former champions, receive the last pick.

In the 18 rounds of choices, the Karachi Kings are the only team with only one first pick. In the fourth round of silver category picks, Karachi will get to choose first. In the PSL 2022 draught, Islamabad United only has two first round picks, in the platinum category’s third round and the silver category’s fifth round.

Draft Rules

At least 3 players from the platinum category, 3 players from the diamond category, 3 players from the gold category, 5 players from silver, 2 players from the emerging category, and 2 players from the supplementary category are eligible to be selected by all franchises.

Franchises in the PSL 7 are allowed to keep a maximum of eight players from the previous season’s squad, as well as one extra player under right-to-match rules. A squad of maximum 18 players will be authorised for each team. In each match, the team can only use four international players and one emerging player in their starting lineup.

Quetta Gladiators

The Quetta Gladiators will be hoping to rebound from a dismal campaign last year. For the second season in a row, the squad finished outside the play-offs and will be aiming to sign quality players to push them over the finish line in PSL 2022. Sarfaraz Ahmed will be charged with leading his men once more, and Shahid Afridi’s impending arrival will make them a force to be reckoned with.

Peshawar Zalmi

After losing in the final of the previous edition, Peshawar Zalmi, one of the most popular teams in the PSL, will be determined to go one step further this time. Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s fiery left-arm bowler, will captain the team once more, and with David Miller set to be included, the club has star quality to take PSL 7 by storm. Wahab just led Deccan Gladiators to victory in the T10 League, and he’ll be hoping to continue his strong leadership and bowling form in the PSL 2022.

Islamabad United

After a record-breaking season in the group stages the previous season, two-time winners Islamabad United were unable to get through the eliminators. Shadab Khan, the club’s star all-rounder, has been impressive as captain thus far, and with the extra experience of captaining the team for two complete seasons, the team is a strong favourite for PSL 2022 once more. The star-studded squad will be focused on improving their results in the critical contests.

Karachi Kings

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, has been named captain of the Karachi Kings for PSL 2022, and former England coach Peter Moores has been named head coach for the forthcoming season. Kings will be determined to win their second PSL crown, and they have the talent in their lineup to become only the second club in Pakistan’s history to win the event twice.

Lahore Qalandars

The Lahore Qalandars, the worst-performing team in PSL history, will have to shake things up in the upcoming PSL 7. In six seasons, they have finished last in the table five times and have only ever qualified for the final once. They are the only team in the PSL’s history to have never won the championship, and they will be determined to rectify that. Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s star pacer, is anticipated to be named captain of the franchise for PSL 7, which would be a pleasant change for the Qalandars.

Lahore will need to choose wisely in the PSL 2022 draught and assemble a well-balanced squad if they want to be a serious title challenger.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans, the defending champions, will be motivated to become the first team in PSL history to retain the title and only the second team in PSL history to win two titles. The team, lead by star wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, has a good squad and will want to acquire more players in the PSL 2022 draught to build on their previous season’s success.

They have a good balance of youth and experience, which will be crucial in PSL 7.

PSL 2022 Venues

The PSL is returning to Pakistan after the previous tournament’s second phase was moved to the UAE owing to the ongoing epidemic. The PSL 2022 will be held in Karachi and Lahore, with the first phase taking place at National Stadium Karachi and including 15 matches. The second phase will be place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which will host 19 matches, including the play-offs and the PSL 7 final.

PSL 2022 Schedule

The PSL 2022 will follow the same format as the previous year. Before the playoffs and the final, each team will face the other twice in the group stages. The tournament will kick off on January 27 with a high-octane match at National Stadium Karachi between defending champions Multan Sultans and previous champions Karachi Kings. The PSL 2022 final will take place on February 27 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
