The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has authorised a Vacant Seat Policy to fill all vacant seats in the country’s public and private medical institutions.
Colleges that have not yet uploaded their lists of admitted students must do so by February 18th, according to the policy. The vacant seats will then be offered to suitable students who were not accepted elsewhere. The seats will be offered on the basis of merit, and the procedure will be completed by February 28th.
Following reports that more than 5,800 seats in medical and dentistry colleges were vacant for the 2021-22 academic year, this development has occurred.
According to an official document, 3,937 seats in public and private medical institutions and 1,936 seats in public and private dental colleges are now vacant.

78 percent of the unfilled seats in medical colleges are in public institutions, while 22 percent are in private institutions. Public institutions have 47 percent of the vacant seats in dentistry colleges, whereas private colleges have 53 percent.
According to a top PMC official, medical and dental colleges were briefed on the dates for advertisements, tests, and outcomes for the academic year 2021-22 multiple times.
Despite the conclusion of the admission procedure for this academic year, the institutes failed to meet the PMC’s deadlines, resulting in 5,873 (or 28.31 percent) of the total seats remaining unfilled.
