PTA told IHC About Blocking 980,000 links Containing Objectionable Content

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told the High Court of Islamabad that by 2021 980,000 hate-talk, controversial, and objectionable content links were blocked.

The PTA report indicates that the Authority contacted social media website management to remove content from websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Recently, 778 links from online media of a film have been erased by PTA. According to PTA, ‘778 links had trailers and movie promotions in different stages such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Daily Motion, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Ladyofheaven.com and Moviefit.me’

PTA stated that pornography is one of the most blocked contents in an IHC submitted report. PTA blocked 865,187 pornography website links, according to the report. Furthermore, over 16,000 website links and blogs that contain hate material against the defense and national security forces were removed by PTA. In addition, the authority also blocked 22,000 pieces of content that contain sectarianism.
