According to reports, the Punjab government has extended summer holidays by one month for all public and private schools in the province.
According to claims in the media, the current academic year will expire on May 31 rather than March 31. The next academic year will begin on August 1, 2022, and end on March 31, 2023. From June 1 through July 31, 2022, students will have a two-month summer holiday instead of one.
In addition, due to the increasing daytime during the summers, the provincial government has decided to change the timings of schools and institutions in the province beginning in March.
According to sources inside the School Education Department (SED), the department has requested that all District Education Authorities (DEAs) keep school hours between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
With the start of winter, the education department changed the hours of all schools and colleges to 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. due to the shorter days.
The SED, on the other hand, has decided to launch second shift classes in 4,000 public schools in Punjab in order to educate almost five million out-of-school children.
In this aim, the department has established a budget of Rs. 3 billion for school upgrades. The project will begin in the following fiscal year.
